Exercise?

After much “putting it off” Jimmy organised a game of soccer tonight on the all weather pitches in Graigcullen. There were 11 of us plus one. The “plus one” was podges missus Tara whom watched from the side lines as we all huffed and puffed.

Felt pretty good to do all that running, right now my back is super stiff and I might be needing an ambulance to get me into work in the morning.

We’ve booked it for next Wednesday again, so we’ll see how things go after the second and third visit :)

Telecoms Woes?

It would appear that yesterday evening Eircom withdrew voice services to Smart Telecoms CPS customers. The announcement was made on rte.ie last night and it was also on the 9 o’clock news which for some poor customers was the first they heard of it.

Today we hear that smart owe eircom 4m euro, 1.7m euro of which is owed from previous months, however the exact details are not clear.

Despite the above, there are now circa 50k Irish households without phone services, some of which didn’t move their line rental can still make calls by adding a prefix to all outgoing calls. Somewhere in the region of 150k people are likely to be affected by this.

And we are still waiting to see what other creditors are going to do, of which there are several. The next few days are going to be interesting.

While all the above is bad and all, Smart going out of business is not a good thing for Ireland. It would be best for competition if they were bailed out. But it might already be too late.

Sexiest women on earth?

Esquire have a bit of a mystery game going on, on their website. 52% of people think it is Scarlett Johansson, I was one of the people who choose her. She has to be one of the most beautifull women on earth. I’m currently sporting several different images on my desktop pc at home. Most of my linux terminals have her transparently displayed behind the text. Bit like 1990s and all that, but she is stunning. Absolutely stunning.

New car?

I got a new car in the start of August. I almost bought an 02 Audi A4 1.9tdi. But a random visit to a Vw dealership for my sister to get her car serviced I picked up a price list and they were having a 3 day “all cars must go” sale. I found a Vw Passat 1.9 TDI (red I) Comfortline for 20k. It had only 35k miles on the clock and it was in immaculate condition, so good infact that I couldn’t leave it there. Bought it there and then on the spot.

So far I’m loving it, climate control, good power from the 100bhp output of the engine. But mostly the fuel efficiency is crazy. A single tank, 68euro gets me the guys of 1000KM. That is nuts compared to the Xsara, absolutely god smacked with how good it is on diesel. That is with the air con on all the time aswell, so its really good.

Pondering getting RS6 alloys/low profile tyres for it, to give it that little bit extra. But because it is black, it has body coloured bumpers and everything else, the aluminium trim around the windows etc it looks the business.

I’ve 4k miles since I got it, its just over 2 months with me now :)

International Ploughing

We had a stand at the ploughing championships. It went pretty damnned well. Niall basically ran the show, we got a lot of interest out there. We ran demos all day long for potential customers of our sign-up system, control panel, site builder and 3 click installer software. All and all it was a really good experience for us, it has been the first “trade show” so to speak where we have brought a long demo equipment etc.

We used a single desktop pc with debian installed on it, with several xen virtual machines that were replicas of our production hosting environment. The setting up of this alone was a pretty cool experience for both myself and Niall and it worked well. Apart form the lack of internet at the show, because of which the licence updates for installatron and sitezen went a bit mad.
