WordPress upgrade, piece of cake or not?

Apparently it is a piece of cake. I’m very supprised, freaked out but happy none the less. Mostly because my experience with other apps in the past hasn’t been that particularly great. e.g. phpBB things just used to break, randomly. Odd.

So aswell as going to the crazy bleedin edge version of wordpress I’ve also picked a new theme. Not sure about it yet. However it is growing on me.

Blacknight overtake Novara!

Yesterday I got a report from webhosting.info about our weekly domain stats. As usual I clicked on the link and low and behold I was amazed. I had looked at it late last year and saw we were about 800 domains off of Novara. I calculated that we’d overtake them in the space of about 6 months, judging by current growth patterns according to independant analyst John McCormac‘s monthly statistics that we subscribe to.

However to my supprise we were 106 domains ahead of them. Huzza I thought! This is really good news, as we are now the second largest hosting company in Ireland. To be honest these figures don’t mean a lot, but in terms of perception it puts us at the forefront of the Irish hosting industry. I was really proud, I almost shed a tear (hahaha, yeah right), but seriously its bloody great news. Especially considering we just took on a new Sales Manager. This is a great boost for morale and a good start to 2007.

Sexiest women on earth?

Esquire have a bit of a mystery game going on, on their website. 52% of people think it is Scarlett Johansson, I was one of the people who choose her. She has to be one of the most beautifull women on earth. I’m currently sporting several different images on my desktop pc at home. Most of my linux terminals have her transparently displayed behind the text. Bit like 1990s and all that, but she is stunning. Absolutely stunning.

New car?

I got a new car in the start of August. I almost bought an 02 Audi A4 1.9tdi. But a random visit to a Vw dealership for my sister to get her car serviced I picked up a price list and they were having a 3 day “all cars must go” sale. I found a Vw Passat 1.9 TDI (red I) Comfortline for 20k. It had only 35k miles on the clock and it was in immaculate condition, so good infact that I couldn’t leave it there. Bought it there and then on the spot.

So far I’m loving it, climate control, good power from the 100bhp output of the engine. But mostly the fuel efficiency is crazy. A single tank, 68euro gets me the guys of 1000KM. That is nuts compared to the Xsara, absolutely god smacked with how good it is on diesel. That is with the air con on all the time aswell, so its really good.

Pondering getting RS6 alloys/low profile tyres for it, to give it that little bit extra. But because it is black, it has body coloured bumpers and everything else, the aluminium trim around the windows etc it looks the business.

I’ve 4k miles since I got it, its just over 2 months with me now :)

Rugby, Limerick, Munster

Just spent the weekend in Limerick. We headed down on Friday night and booked ourselves into the Lodge in Castle Troy. Went for a few pings of Ken and Probably in Flannerys near burger king. Bren arrived and had a few mates and we all got chatting. We stayed there till around 1am and went on the hunt for late beer. None of the usual places like Nancys etc were opened … (probably closed early due to the Munster match being on the following day). We ended up in some stinking “night club” where the carpet was sticky like it were made from glue. Got talking to some “wah wah” from limerick in there, had a bit of fun talking about how us Ginger guys have it hard. Quite funny really. Off we went to the lodge for the night. Poor auld Bren slept on the floor :)

On saturday we found it fairly hard to move. I had the mother of all hang overs as did Jimbo … poor chap. In to Clohessy’s with us to watch the Match. Slaps, Leo, Kev and John were in there waiting. The place was black .. unreal .. packed to the rafters. The match was excellent … most fun ever had. The place was in bits and our feet were sore from standing all day.

One burger king meal and 12 pints later we were ready to move around town to find somewhere to camp for the night. We ended up in Nancys and had a laugh. Great weekend overall. Will be going again soon!

One other thing happened this weekend, our mate Damo lost his Gran on his dads side in the wee hours of this morning. Sorry to hear it mate.

Dentist?

Had my second of about 5 visits to the dentist today. While I’ve always dreaded going, and I find the whole thing very uncomfortable, my teeth look amazing. He cleaned the bottom right set of teeth and they feel/look deadly. I also got 2 fillings on that side. He went hunting at a second tooth to find decay below the surface that the radiogram didn’t show :/ that was repaired also.

The really bad part I guess is the smell of burning teeth. Also with one of the adjustments to the drill you can see particals of your teeth rising. It smells and looks terrible. The teeth cleaning part hurts, but damn they look deadly!

ET?

Not what you think … heh. I’ve been playing the game online quite a bit lately. We’ve some spare resources on a box or two on our new network. We’re INEX and peering with almost all the members so it provides nice ping times, sub 18ms in game. Not too bad at all.

It’s mostly for intersocs users, I plan to open it up once we’ve migrated everything/everyone to the new network.

Had an awesome game tonight, 3 a side team on a custom map. We were the alies .. it was down to the wire, we had to blow their radar, we got the dynamite armed about 8 times … but with 30 seconds left in the game, we got it! Was much fun.

Wavehunt

Myself and Paul (works for us now!, known as pauld in the office, he hates this :P ) entered into wavehunt

It was pretty funny and it was fairly interesting. We were robbed and only came second. But 50 euro is 50 euro more than I’d have goten if I had not entered :)
